Do you want to build an incredible place for people to come to work?

Are you passionate about building a place where people love to come to work? Constantly thinking about ways to make things better, easier, more efficient? Ways to make the work environment more inclusive so we can continue to attract and retain the best talent? Then we want to talk to you.

Here at The Variable, we want to be the best run agency in the country. And our operations team is responsible for making The Variable a remarkable place to work, for all of our teammates. We are small by design. So we hire carefully. The Director of Operations will be a part of the senior-level leadership team, reporting to the Head of Finance and Operations, and will lead the charge to ensure The Variable is a place where our teammates can bring their whole selves to work and thrive because they’re in the right environment and have the best resources and tools at their disposal to be successful.

YOU MUST

  • Work collaboratively with the Associate Director of People Experience to continue to build a more equitable and inclusive work environment, consistently learning and pushing us towards continued progress
  • Lead future M&A integration planning from an operations perspective, developing roadmaps that successfully blend strong teams, processes, and procedures
  • Guide and manage post-merger integration activities to drive continuous improvement, coaching teams on cross-functional processes and procedures
  • Work with department leaders to identify and implement the right tools, IT, and communications solutions needed for our teams to do their best work
  • Creatively solve for ways to integrate teams in a hybrid work environment, fueling collaboration across remote and in-office teams
  • Document applicable business operation processes and procedures in a way that brokers shared knowledge and implementation across our organization
  • Successfully manage operational budgets for the agency in a way that maximizes the value we get out of what we invest in the tools and resources for our team
  • Implement an inclusive procurement strategy that promotes supplier diversity across our organization and manage the procurement process from vendor contract review, negotiation, and approval through purchasing
  • Oversee the space planning for our office in Winston-Salem, NC and manage our office facilities, including oversight of building management, A/V solutions, and lease agreement negotiations and renewals
  • Support agency risk management by assisting the Head of Finance and Operations with insurance policy reviews and renewals to ensure we have the appropriate levels of coverage to safeguard our team against times the unthinkable might happen
  • Be open and willing to assist with special projects as they come up, working collaboratively with other leaders on the operations team such as the Associate Director of People Experience, the Associate Director of Delivery, and the Controller

YOU HAVE

  • Ample experience in business operations
  • Ideally, 10+ years of operations experience in a professional services company (bonus points if it’s an agency, but not required)
  • A willingness to call Winston-Salem, NC home; while The Variable maintains a flexible working policy where employees can choose whether they work at home or in the office, the success of this position will depend on local proximity to be in the office when needed (home of arts and innovation, our city has some of the lowest cost of living in the country with an incredible small-city charm)
  • Experience integrating disparate teams in ways that drive towards shared values, processes, tools, and technologies
  • A shared value that teams of diverse backgrounds and experiences deliver the highest quality work product
